Parvaneh Etemadi

Parvaneh Etemadi is an Iranian visual artist known for her still life work, paintings, collages, and prints. Born in 1947 in Tehran, Iran, she was raised in Birjand, South Khorasan province. Parvaneh attended the University of Tehran in the Department of Fine Art, where she studied under Bahman Mohasses. She had her first solo exhibition in 1969 at Ghandriz Gallery in Tehran and regularly showcased her work there between 1967 and 1977. Parvaneh Etemadi is considered one of the most successful and popular female Iranian artists today. Her work has been described as a blend of constructivism and abstraction, influenced by European art principles. She has also expressed her preference not to be labeled as a 'woman artist' or a 'feminist artist' and believes her work resonates more with the "agony and ecstasy of poetry".

Parvaneh Etemadi's art has been exhibited internationally, and her work can be found in the public museum collections of the British Museum in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 2019, a retrospective of her work was held at Tarrahan Azad Gallery in Tehran. She has made significant contributions to the art scene in Tehran and continues to be recognized as a major art figure.
